KUNMING BECOMING
CHINA'S "SOLAR CITY"?
As solar
hot water heaters become ubiquitous throughout the greater Chinese
roofscape, it is stated that mainland China is now home to as many as
60 percent of the worlds solar hot water heating capacity, with the
total installed capacity of the heaters in China estimated at 30
million households. While a national adoption of the technology is
occuring at the level of the occupant with solar hot water heaters
increasingly viewed as a standard appliance for urban apartment
dwellers, the city of Kunming is emerging as China's premier
"Solar City" with more than half of the city's 4.7 million
inhabitants using the technology. Worldwatch Institute provides more info.
