People's Architecture

In his talk, Clifford Pearson, deputy editor-in-chief of Architectural Record and editor-in-charge of Architectural Record China, discusses the work of an emerging generation of innovative Chinese architects. Mostly in their 30s and 40s, these architects are experimenting with new materials, using old materials in new ways, and interpreting Chinese culture for the 21st century. Although an increasingly "flat" or globalized world is blurring all kinds of distinctions--between countries, cultures, and disciplines--architects such as Qingyun Ma, Yung Ho Chang, Urbanus, Pei Zhu, and Original Design Studio are finding a particularly Chinese way of pursuing modern architecture.
