Meng Yan of Urbanus Architecture and Design give us insight on Dafen Art Museum. The Dafen Art Museum was a competition organized by the Shenzhen City Planning Bureau, Longgang Division, in 2005. Urbanus Architecture and Design won the competition with their intent to challenge the typical idea of a museum: "we hope the museum can host the most avant-garde contemporary art shows and at the same time can include the local new vernacular pop art, it should be a highly mixed building, a hybrid container." The museum occupies an area of 17,000M2, making it the largest museum in Shenzhen, as well as the largest county museum in China. |
